Volunteer staff for new community-run tourist information hub
Assynt Development Trust have set up a volunteer-staffed tourism hub in the foyer of the Lochinver Mission building (as featured in a recent edition of An Là on BBC Alba). Ewen McLachlan, our new Development Officer, job-sharing the post along with Adam Pellant, has organised local volunteer staff for the tourism hub, which has been set up to address the high demand for visitor information since the closure of Visit Scotland’s Tourism Information Centre in Lochinver.
As Ewen says: “We currently have a team of approximately 6 confirmed volunteers, headed by Mary Hinsley. We really need to bring in that number again, so as to take pressure off the first volunteers and ensure the viability of maintaining visitor information at The Mission. So, if you have a couple of hours available per week, enjoy getting out the house and talking to folk about Assynt and life beyond, do let us know.”
